The weather once again affected life. Late night rains in low-lying areas of Jammu, snowfall in high-altitude areas forced people to collapse into homes. The highway has once again been closed for vehicular traffic following the landslides at several places between Ramban to Banihal on the Jammu-Srinagar highway due to rain. Traffic police have stopped vehicles going from other states to Srinagar in Lakhanpur, Nagrota and Udhampur.
These weather conditions can be attributed to the active and strong Western Disturbance over the Western Himalayas. The system may continue to give heavy rain and snow until January 14 evening. Thereafter, a short breather is expected before another WD makes an entry, probably around January 16.
